| She was
born in Sacramento, California, and lived most of her life in the
South Bay Area. Rev. Joan was a mother to six children; three daughters
and a son, and later adopted two step-sons from her marriage to Walter
S. Killip of 39 years. She also had five grandchildren and three great
grandchildren. Rev. Joan was a graduate from San Jose State University.
Her prior career was in teaching educationally handicapped children
for the Santa Cruz County School System.
Rev. Joan's life long spiritual journey eventually lead her to
Divine Science where she was ordained in June 1985, at the age of
67, in Denver, Colorado by the Divine Science Federation International.
April 1985-April 1990, she Co-Ministered with Rev. Jim Bond at the
Divine Science Church of Truth of San Jose, California (today the
Divine Science Community Center). Then in late 1990, she came out
of retirement for six months to Co-Minister with her daughter Rev.
Christine Emmerling. Until shortly before her transition, Rev. Joan
continued to support the Sunday Service in giving the meditation,
and she also maintained the Dial-A-Prayer. In great appreciation
from the Divine Science Community Center for the Love and Light
of Truth she shared with us.
